Bridging France's waste to valuable solutions for the Scandinavian Waste-to-Energy market

Growth market France!
In 2024, N+P achieved a substantial growth in trading activities within and from the French trading market. Our annual supply volume reached 150,000 tonnes of waste that has been repurposed as alternative fuels in the heat-, power and cement market across Europe. This initiative not only tackles the global waste problem but also replaces fossil fuels by effectively utilizing waste, thereby contributing significantly to reduce CO2 emissions. We aim to further boost our activity in the French market, and have set ourselves a target to exceed 200,000 tonnes in 2025 to make an even bigger impact on CO2-reduction!

In February, N+P successfully loaded a cargo in France with a volume of approx. 2.500 tonnes of low carbon RDF which will be used at a fluidized bed boiler for in the Scandinavian market.

Low Carbon RDF
To further reduce CO2 emissions from RDF, N+P has been developing solutions and new routes to reduce the carbon content in the material. We are excited to share our progress and future initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges facing the Waste-to-Energy sector, particularly for Scandinavia.

One of the key challenges the industry is facing is the high carbon tax, which has driven energy producers to seek sustainable alternatives. Low carbon RDF derived from non-recyclable waste, primarily sourced from France, is a perfect solution. This specific type of RDF not only meets the Scandinavian demand for biogenic materials but also alleviates the pressing issue of waste disposal in France, where rising costs have led to a surplus. In alignment with the EU directives, the French government aims to reduce landfill use by over 50% in the next three years. Waste collectors and operators are investing in alternatives to improve recycling rates.

EU-ETS Tax
N+P's extensive network of French recyclers provides a specific RDF quality with a high biomass content, perfectly aligning with the future demand for low carbon fuels in the European Waste-to-Energy sector, particularly as EUTs taxes continue to rise. In several countries like Norway, Sweden, Germany and soon also the Netherlands there is a CO2 tax implemented based on waste incineration. N+P is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between both markets by serving as a flexible contractual partner with extensive experience and knowledge of the European waste market.

Logistics
Currently the main export markets for N+P’s trading business in France are The Netherlands, Spain and Germany, but we have also initiated transport of RDF projects to the Netherlands and several new projects into Scandinavia, using and optimal balance between road- and waterways, are started or will start during 2025. We focus on the most efficient transport options to minimize our logistics carbon footprint. Additionally, we are set to launch our first rail transport project into Scandinavia to further enhance our low-carbon transport solutions.
